how is it?? [25 Apr 2011|06:44pm]
I'm a junior and Hollins is the first college that really got my attention because of its writing program. So i wanted to know for those of you who've taken it, do you think it has helped you in your careers?

And also, what's it like being at an all-women's college?!

thanks :)

UK Graduate Program vs. Hollins? [04 Jan 2010|10:07am]

[ mood | contemplative ]

I was wondering if there were any Hollins graduates who went on to attend a UK graduate program?

I'm curious about the differences in the teaching styles and classroom styles. Did you find the UK style more difficult or just different? What was the hardest adjustment for you?

I'm looking at applying to the University of Kent's program in Brussels / MA in International Conflict Analysis. My degree from Hollins is in History.

Thank you.

alumnae email [24 Aug 2009|02:03pm]

Am I the only alumnae experiencing long-term serious email issues? I've been emailing with IT and Laura Tuggle Anderson for about 2 weeks now to no avail (mostly because I've only gotten a few replies and no definite answers). Anyway, just curious if it's just me or if this is a widespread problem.

Alumnae: If you're having WebMail problems... [17 Apr 2009|09:05am]

Hi, this is Laura Tuggle Anderson '98 and I work in Alumnae Relations - please email me at alumnae@hollins.edu and I will get IT to help. I'm sorry about this!

What happened was that IT converted alumnae webmail accounts - that they thought were active - over to a new system. They did this conversion on April 15, 2009.

We took their list of alumnae they said were using the webmail and we (Alumnae Relations) emailed them instructions a month ago. But it looks like they missed a lot of people, unfortunately.

I'm really sorry for the problem. If you email me at alumnae@hollins.edu, I will get them to respond ASAP - and I'll respond to you with new log in instructions.

worry worry worry [20 Mar 2009|11:24pm]

[ mood | anxious ]

Hey guys

I just received my financial aid packet from Hollins and am quite honestly freaking out. I fear I will be in debt for the rest of my life. Quick question, does anyone regret going to Hollins? I mean, it seems like a great school--but it's just a great deal of money. I don't know. I'm just very indecisive as of now. It seems surreal that the extent of my happiness at actually GETTING IN is now to be driven away by my fears of actually paying all of this off.

Very sorry for the desperation-tinged post.

But, uh yeah!
Can't wait to see some of you in the fall.

Club Members!

Your write ups for clubs, to let people know what you club is about and what you do are due to be turned in to the spinster by Tuesday, March 17th. These should be short, 1-2 paragraphs, and hit on the message your club wants to send to the campus or the events you put on during the year. The next week, Tuesdays, March 24, group photos will be due with member names. Photos of events can still be submitted after that date, before the end of the semester. Clubs are welcome to either take their own photo or arrange a time for one of the Spinster photographers or myself to come take the photo for you. Please remember that if you'd like us to take your photo, arrangements need to be made prior to March 24.

Talk to your club leaders! Post your picture or thoughts here, or email me at jdonaldson@hollins.edu

Book? [07 Feb 2009|02:54pm]

Was wondering if anyone has a copy of "Communications Mosaics" I could borrow for... an hour or so. I ordered the book online but it won't be here til either late next week or possibly the week after, and I don't want to fall behind so early in the semester.

Request for resume help! [01 Feb 2009|11:51am]

I am scrambling to finish my resume for my application for a MA in English at Virginia Tech, but it's kind of ... long. I've got all of the writing-related jobs I've had on there, dating about four years and six different jobs (two of them at Hollins' CLE - my old job as a tutor and my current job as a coordinator). What should I cut down? Should I have my three most recent jobs and leave off my job as a tutor? Should I combine my two jobs at the CLE? Should I just have it all, making my resume a full two pages? Please help!

Check-In for J-Term [02 Jan 2009|02:15pm]

[ mood | nervous ]

Okay, so I was away last semester at an internship. I'm going down on January 4th (J-Term starts on the fifth, right?) and... I need to know where to go to check in and get my keys and stuff. Do they have it set up like they do for the fall semester?

Thanks so much!

[02 Dec 2008|04:47pm]

Hey, current Hollins students or alumna - would any of you be willing to talk to me, or do you think you'd have friends who could provide quotes, about First Step, Tinker Scares, Ring Night, freshman orientation/movein, Battle of the Bins, etc?

I'm doing the student life section of the yearbook and any memorable experiences, great stories, how you felt...stuff like that...would be really useful.

Comments here or to fdaigler@hollins.edu would be great! Thanks!

I'm New! [01 Dec 2008|08:02am]

Hey everybody,

I'm just writing to say hi and introduce myself.  I'm Sarah and I'm 19 (20 in January) and I'm a sophomore.  I'll be transferring to Hollins in spring and I'm really excited!  I'm thinking about majoring in biology, but I'm also interested in religion, writing, French, theatre, psychology, and a lot of other things.  I'm currently at Edgewood College in Madison, WI.  I'm so excited!

Also, if there's anything I know, or any advice you want to give me, it would be much appreciated!

Art Program [30 Nov 2008|12:10am]

[ mood | artistic ]

Hello, my name is Shannon, and I am a junior in high school, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the art program at Hollins is like.  I want to work for Blizzard Entertainment as a 2D Artist, and I really wanted to go to Hollins, but I wanted to make sure the art program was a very good one that would help me out to achieving my goal.  So if anyone is taking the art program could help me out, it would be appreciated.

Hollins folks on Etsy? [25 Nov 2008|10:14am]

[ mood | hopeful ]

Hi, Hollins women near and far (students and alums),

If your awesome selves, or anyone you know, are on Etsy.com, crafting inspired works and being entrepreneurially swell, could you please let me know? I'm working on an article about Hollins folks on Etsy (for the alumni mag) and would love to be able to interview you.

If you're an Etsy fan and just want to wax poetic about the site, I can use that, too! :)

Many thanks,
Class o' '98

J-Term Internships question [06 Nov 2008|02:13pm]

As I am writing this I can't believe I have forgotten, but could someone tell me what the timeline this year for J-Term internships is? Are students having to choose/set these up now? I'm an alum (Class of 2008) who listed an internship with the Career Center and I was just curious as to when the student's deadlines were to have this stuff set up.

(Also, I am now living in Maryland and wistfully wishing I could see the fall colors in Roanoke...they are pretty here so I can only imagine how gorgeous they are on campus!)
